Taking more than one position

This is something I've been contemplating recently... Wondering what you all thought. Ordinarily, when I carry a trade, it almost alway goes contrary to me initially (such as in the very first moments after taking it). So what I'm wondering, for example, if I took a trade, using a 20 pip stop loss, would it be much better to say enter a trade for 3 lots off the bat, and live with the outcome either way (risking 3 lots for -20 pips) or possibly take 1 lot commerce, then if the trade goes against me 10 pips, enter a 2nd lot, and then if it continues to proceed against me personally to 15 pips, enter the 3rd lot (risking 1 lot at -20, 1 lot at -10 and one lot at -5).

The risk seems to be this way, but the winners will definitely probably be less profitable also if you don't happen to end up at one stage -15 and then it turns your way (which might also enable you to break even faster ). I guess my question would be, what appears to be the better situation?
