Fed Said to Reverse Stance, Consider financing Package for AIG
By Erik Holm
Sept. 16 (Bloomberg) -- The Federal Reserve is considering extending a ”loan package” into AIG the insurance company facing a money deficit, according to a individual familiar with the discussions.
The stance by federal regulators is a reversal from a position they held as late as last night, and individuals with knowledge of the discussions are ”cautiously optimistic,” said the individual, who declined to be identified as discussions are confidential.
The individual gave no timetable for reaching an agreement or estimate how much cash New York-based AIG would need.
